Our Story

One Art.
Two Names.

Judo and jiu-jitsu are not separate martial arts. They share a direct lineage — the same throws, the same principles, the same philosophy. Judo4JiuJitsu exists to restore that connection on the mat.

The Lineage

Jigoro Kano
Founded judo in 1882. Codified jiu-jitsu into a modern martial art and sport.
Mitsuyo Maeda
Kodokan judoka. Traveled the world demonstrating judo. Settled in Brazil.
Carlos Gracie
Learned from Maeda in Brazil. Founded the Gracie family tradition.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Judo's direct offspring. The world's fastest growing martial art.

When Mitsuyo Maeda — a Kodokan judoka trained under Jigoro Kano himself — arrived in Brazil in the early 1900s, he brought judo with him. He taught Carlos Gracie, who passed it to his brothers and sons. What became Brazilian jiu-jitsu was built on the same throws, sweeps, pins, and chokes that Kano had codified decades earlier in Japan.

The arts diverged over a century of independent evolution. BJJ refined the ground game to an extraordinary degree. Judo built the standing game into an Olympic discipline. But the gap that opened between them — particularly in the takedown and standing phases — left BJJ practitioners searching for what was lost.

Judo4JiuJitsu is a simple idea: the black belts who carry that standing knowledge should be easy to find, easy to verify, and easy to book. The lineage reconnects on your mat.

"BJJ is judo's offspring. The standing game that was lost is still alive — it just needs to find its way back to the mat."

What We're Building

The Platform

01

Zip-code-based search that shows local coaches first, then travel-willing coaches below. Sort by distance, tier, price, or rank. Filters for every need.

03

Academies send booking requests directly to coaches. No agency, no middleman, no commission on seminars. A direct connection between the school and the sensei.

USA Judo Verified

Every coach listed on Judo4JiuJitsu is a current USA Judo member holding a minimum rank of Shodan — first degree black belt. Our coach database is sourced directly from USA Judo records and updated regularly.

Elite and Champion tier coaches are individually verified against official IJF and USA Judo competition records before receiving their badge. This is the credibility layer that makes the platform trustworthy for both sides.
